SAMPLE EDIT: Free
A free read of chapter one (no more than 4k words or 10 pages) for first-time clients. Trusting your story with someone new can be a tricky and difficult step – this helps us both know if we’re a good fit.
QUERY LETTER EDIT: $25/1-2 rounds
Two rounds with your query, blurb, or cover copy. Must send your attempt as well as a synopsis (even if the synopsis is a mess or just bullet points).
PLOT CONSULTATION/BRAINSTORMING: $50/hour
Where is your story trying to go? How can you get it there more effectively? Why aren’t your characters cooperating? How can you fix the giant plot hole in the middle? From characterization to conflict to fleshing out a seed of an idea, sometimes a great brainstorming session is all you need to gain momentum.
After sitting down with authors at numerous writing conference to do just this, Jo fell in love with these sessions. After coaching numerous authors through their projects, Allie fell in love with these sessions as well. If you’re more comfortable with a one-on-one messaging chat, we’re both happy to accommodate that as well. If all you need is a kick in the ass, or to talk through career or branding or whatever…we can do that, too. Well, Allie can help with branding, not Jo.
*Consultations are billed in 20 minute increments, with a 1 hour minimum charge.
SIMPLE STORY EDIT: $30 per 10,000 words
A quick read of your MS. You’ll receive an edit letter outlining strengths, weaknesses, plot pitfalls, and a few notes on characterization as well as marketability. Instead of an edit letter, we’re happy to have a 30-60 minute phone chat with you where we can talk plot, and we can answer questions. Author’s choice.
This edit is my recommendation if – ONE – you have a first draft and you want some general idea of what’s working and what’s not, or – TWO – if you’ve been querying and your book just isn’t getting the attention it deserves.
*minimum charge of 50.00
SINGLE PASS EDIT: $60 per 10,000 words
One editorial pass of your book, plus a round of questions after you receive your edit. This will include in-manuscript notes and an editorial content letter pointing out general overall issues in the manuscript: plot problems, character development, repetition/redundancy, and basic grammar issues.
*minimum charge of 50.00
DOUBLE PASS EDIT: $90 per 10,000 words
Two editorial passes of your book, plus a round of questions after you receive your final edit. This will include in-manuscript notes and an editorial content letter pointing out general overall issues in the manuscript: plot problems, character development, repetition/redundancy, and basic grammar issues. The first round will lean more heavily on story and character, and the second round will lean more heavily on language (line/copy).
*minimum charge of 90.00
PROOFREAD: $50 per 10,000 words
One pass of your book. Typos only. No edit letter or style sheet is included.
*Minimum charge of 50.00
If you’re not sure what kind of edit you’re after, please ask! We may be able to help you pinpoint what would be most useful. If you need a rush, less than 2 weeks, the extra charge is 50.00. Jo can sometimes be talked into copy edits. Email to discuss options.
To schedule an edit, please email WaypointAuthors@gmail.com – with EDIT in the subject line.
KEEP IN MIND:
Traditionally published books do between 1-4 rounds of story edits, 1-4 rounds of line edits, and 1-2 rounds of copy before the book is proofread. 95% accuracy is literally the best a human can do. PLEASE read over your MS carefully after I’ve edited. I’m human. I will miss things. And I love my job.
By booking and/or sending over an edit, you’re saying that you understand the following:
First time clients will send their first pages for a free sample edit – helps all of us!
$50.00 non-refundable deposit is required to schedule an edit. That $50.00 will be deducted from your final total. If your manuscript is turned more than five business days late, the $50.00 is forfeit. The reasoning behind this: When an author schedules an edit, that portion of the calendar is blocked out, but life necessities like food, gas, and internet are still a present need.
Payment is expected at, or soon after, the invoice is sent. Your 3-4 week turn-around time begins after payment is received. Edits will not proceed past the one-quarter mark without payment.
No portion of your MS, edits on that MS, nor any details/ideas/theories from your MS, nor your personal information will be shared with any outside parties, including social media, unless we have your express permission.
If there’s something you think would help your writing, and it’s not listed here, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our passion is helping writers become stronger writers, and we’ll always be looking for ways we can do that better. Jo is happy to do a short cheerleading session on the phone in exchange for Amazon bucks or Barnes and Noble gift cards 😉
